Mid Ohio 2007
Ellis Holman and Steve Searles Another Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD) at Mid-Ohio race course is history. This year’s event was notable for some very drenching rains, which while needed by the surrounding countryside, it did hamper folks attending VMD. The good news was that it did not rain all the time and when the rain stopped, everyone came out from under the tents, vendor’s booths and wherever else and went on with the racing, riding and swap meet shopping. For readers who haven’t been to VMD, it is a huge 3 day extravaganza of vintage motorcycling held at the Mid-Ohio race course near Lexington , Ohio . The days are packed with pavement racing, motorcross, dirt track and trials events. As if there wasn’t enough racing action, AMA, who sponsors the event also has seminars such as how to pack light when traveling and what to take. Will Stoner provides some 40 acres of swap meet field. Folks coming to look for bikes and parts found a rich field of opportunity. Yours truly came home with a mostly original 1971 Yamaha XS1B which will be undergoing restoration during the coming months. VJMC had a presence both in the infield and in the swapmeet area this year. John McElfresh and Ken Carlson organized the Saturday night cookout in the infield area. This was well attended by VJMC members and a good time was had by all. During the three days at VMD, 42 new members joined the ranks of the VJMC. Welcome to all the new members of the club! See you all at Mid-Ohio next year!
