The VJMC at Mid Ohio!

Our July event was as usual "a great time had by all who could make it", It is always interesting to attend this show to see the huge swap meet, the auction, take part in the test rides & generally just hangout with people you only see one or twice a year. On that note, our booth this year was especially well equipped with VJMC representatives from the "new" staff. A great thanks goes out to Jay Horine, Ron Burton, Greg Shortridge, Ellis Holman, Jim Townsend, John Sullivan, Rick Seto & others who took the time to set up our booth, sign-up members & generally chatup the benefits of joining our club.

Bikes displayed in our both along with their owners are as follows. ( sorry if I have missed anyone !)

Sam Simmons , trick 69 Yam 250
Greg Peters 74 Kawasaki H2
Dave Kukulski (a newly appointed Rep in Penn.) 72 Kawasaki H2
Ellis Holman , mint 64 ? CB92R
Rick Seto , 69 Kawasaki H1, 68 Honda CB250
Andre Okazaki 74 Kawasaki H1
John Richardson 76 Honda 400/4
Ken Kerr 72 Honda CL350
Bill Colson 74 Honda 750

Here are some of the bikes featured in the Concours event.
I'm not sure of the name of the owner of the H1,
but the CB750 is VJMC member Bill Colson
& the 400/F is owned by John Richardson.
Both are out of the Toronto area.

Interesting Events:

I have to tell the story of the campers at our site & what happens when you mix alcohol with a free Kawasaki. It was Friday evening ( or was it Saturday morning ? ) anyway we were sitting by the fire swapping bike stories when word got out there was a "free" Kawasaki H1 a couple of rows over. Andre & Dave Kukulski took off like a shot to retrieve this "gem", and after some wrench twisting they had removed some valuable electrical parts, seat grab rail & some other odds & ends they wanted.

About a hour later this chap who was toting a half bottle of Tequila came by to see what we were up to. He was barely able to stand but was able to id the bike (Now remember, it's pitch black in a field!) as a 76 Saki H1. We were impressed, so we offered him the bones of the H1 for free, & he replied, "Naw.. I'll give you my Tequila for the H1." We again repeated our "free" offer, but were stuck taking him up on the Tequila.

We decided to take some pictures of the event (just for the record). As the new H1 owner made his way off into the night, we could see him aiming the Saki by the fork tubes while balancing his bottle. I have to admit we did hear a few crashes followed by some curses. Later that day we noted that the chap had luckily made it back to his base.

Life doesn't get much better than a free H1 & a bottle of Tequila !

This event was just one of the interesting happenings of the campers.... other highlights were the mini tornado that blew most of our display down ( flattened my tent ) but the best sight was during the torrential downpour when Dave K noticed the wind had knocked over his C100! He proceeded to hold it up while protecting himself from the elements by wearing a passing cardboard "box"! You had to witness this to appreciate how this looked! For all of you who were staying at hotels you missed a entertaining evening.

Also, I have to mention a special thanks to the Brauns for their incredible hospitality in putting on a terrific barbecue. The bbq went over very well with the campers ( who don't camp very often ) & who by then were ready for a home cooked meal!

Here we are getting ready for our "Lap of the track"

The Lap of the Track has become an annual event, as it's alot of fun getting your vintage bike out for a run when you might otherwise not be driving it at all. We laid down some serious "smokescreens" for the other riders, with the H1, H2 & Andre's 350LC doing the damage. Same crew with the addition of Ken Kerr (far left) Ken is our resident photographer & the author of these pictures, "thanks Ken for taking them." Third from the left is a friend of Greg Peters, Dave (not sure of the last name).
