Jason Liebeknecht "This shot was taken Murray Liebeknecht,on the right with his '74 RT3 360.It had heaps of power,  the other bike at the rear is the same the one in front a DT175. This shot taken in the forrests out of the city of Adelaide, South Australia"

Jason Liebeknecht "My dad, Murray Liebeknecht, bought this in 1975 and he used to take me riding all around on the back of it, I used to look forward to those days together and it rubbed off on me later in life. I now own 5 VJ Motorbikes"

Nathan Terry and his
'71 Hodaka Super Rat.
"I went through four of them in my junior high/high school daze. They were great little bikes and I've restored a couple of them while passing through my mid-life crisis."

1971- Mike Vachon 's father on a brand new CB750. "His previous two bikes were an S90 and then a CB350. He wanted something that would cruise the highway in comfort and be suitable for long trips. He also wasted no time in throwing on a few accessories. Yes, those are real air-horns sitting on the front fender. Note the over-sized mud-flap behind the front wheel. The passenger back-rest was actually a head-rest taken out of a car and clamped onto the travel rack."

1975- Mike Vachon with
his first street bike, a fairly new Kawasaki 400 two-stroke street screamer. "Always had difficulty keeping the front wheel on the ground with this bike. Tall sissy bar kept me from losing passengers. Note the interesting garb. It's not quite a leisure suit, but an all white jean jacket and pants. Says a lot about the '70's eh?"

T.D. Bash on a '68 Honda CB450K1 in 1974: "Heads Up Display won't appear in cars for many years, yet I can see my gauges in my Bell Star face shield!"

T.D. Bash taking a relaxing 'smoke'(hmmm) break on Honey Moon Island, FL in the summer of '74 complete with Elvis shades, ponytail, and Dingo boots! The 72 Yamaha CT175 frame was stripped down & custom painted silver with 3-tone candy blue paint.

Stephan Hilf, a neighbor kid on Dave Richter's CL77 custom.

"The kid lived next door years ago and was fascinated by the motorcycle activity in my garage. His father was a doctor. I used to take him to the junk yards with me and between that and playing around in my garage he usually got pretty dirty. I used to laugh when his mother came to get him for dinner and she was appalled by how he was greasy or his clothes were all dirty. I'll bet she used to take him home and scrub him with a brush before his dad got home. He loved it and I liked having a curious funny little kid around long before I had my own."

This is a picture of my second bike, a 1972 Yamaha JT2 Mini Enduro. My first was a late 60's Rupp mini-bike. There was a lot of action, and we had a lot of fun!! Jeff McIntyre

(above) This was taken in the late summer of 1962. I traded in a 1961 CA-77 on a new left over 1961 CB-72 in Washington state. I was on my 12,600 mile trip on a Honda from Iowa to Alaska and down to Seattle and than Ca. and over to Tx. and back home to Iowa. If you look close at the cycle you will still see plastic on the seat. I'm the
one on the right at 19 years old.

Roger Cole & Friends

Honda CL160

Honda CL160

Roger Cole and Navy buddies on Guam, Feb-Mar 1968.
"I was in the Navy and stationed there for 18 months. I bought a brand new Honda CL 160 to have transportation during my tour. The top photo is of two friends and myself on a ride around the island. Ed Jentoft on the left had a Yamaha 305 street bike. I in the middle had a new Honda CL160 and George Abee on the right had a Yamaha Big Bear Scrambler. The lower two photos are of my new bike - the only new motorcycle I ever owned. I ended up selling the CL160 to an individual who had it shipped back to the states. It hasn't run for years but it is in a friend's garage. I'm thinking of asking him if he will sell it back to me!"

Yamaha TX750
ABOVE: In the winter of 1972 I purchased a hew 1973 Yamaha RD350 and it may be the best bike I've ever owned. How ironic then that in the fall of 1973, I traded it in on this tarted up 1973 Yamaha TX750. Regrettably, the much-maligned TX was a good idea.... done badly. Anyway, I put about 1000 miles on it in the summer of 1974 before surrendering to it's myriad of difficulties and, at great financial discomfort, unceremoniously dumping it. This picture was taken in Calgary,Alberta in May 1974 just hours before it's first major failure. Still; a significant bike from a great time in our lives that deserves a salute. Just don't count my fingers!
Les Finnigan, Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Check out the large version of the above!. Check out those pants and helmets. The Seventies FOR SURE . Alan Herold submits these photos of his mom's cousin Rod and his '71 CB450.

Above: Here is a photo of my second motorcycle, a 1963 Honda CL72 Scrambler which I bought when I was 15 in 1965 and chopped in 1966 - I lived in Sacramento, and the CHP motor-cops used to write use tickets all the time for having our baffles out and snuff-or-nots wide open! My first bike was a Yellow Yamaha 80 YG-1 trailmaster which I bought in the summer of 1964 at the age of 14 and rode everywhere  - my buddy had a Honda CB90 and we used to ride as far away as Tahoe and SF area - and my folks didn't care that I rode without a permit or license!   Imagine that today! My 250 Scrambler had a HC cam and bored to S-12. Was a fun bike to ride in the Elsinore area during that time

"This was my first real bike having updated from a 65 allstate compact. had a job at the local honda shop in gallatin tn at the time. gave a 100.00 for it from the shop where thay had robbed a rear wheel, carb and points cover..sold it for 200.00 and bought a cl 175 k3 the next summer..restoring one of those now..where did the time go ???"

Bill Silver on his first bike,
a 1967 Honda CL90.

"Here's my very first bike... a HONDA, of course. This is the "famous machine" (mentioned in several of my books) which I drove for 1500 miles in three days, starting in San Diego, headed up the 395 Highway, eventually to Reno, then back across through Sacramento, only to get rained on in San Francisco. Got some sleep in Haight-Ashbury park and finally headed back to visit my father in Playa del Rey, CA (across the way from Marina del Rey). Bike got 100 mpg at highway speeds.... 55-65 mph. I was using STEEN synthetic oil at the time, which no doubt keep it running so well for so long. My overnight at Mono Lake (stayed in the county jail cell - voluntarily) left the bike outside in 12 degree weather. Barely got it lit the next morning! Had to push start it! Battery was about half frozen, too. Kept going and going.... That is what sold me on Honda motorcycles, back in 1967! I never imagined that I would become known as MrHonda, 25 years later!" Above are three photos from when I was stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan . I was there from 1962 to 1965,  The top one is me on my 1963 Honda CL72 scrambler in front of the Yokota Motorcycle Club house.   Pictures were taken in 1964.  The middle one is also of me on my converted CL72 decked out in full drag racing form, racing in the 250cc modified class. We were able to use a closed taxi way on the far side of the base for the drag races, something quite new to the Japanese.  The lower photo is  after we had returned to the base after participating in a Japanese "mud" scramble race, or as they call it....motocross. It's now hard to imagine how we put these bikes thru such rigorous duty, not having a clue as to how valuable they would become in today’s market. This scrambler was the third Honda I had while in Japan.  The first one was a CA72 and then I bought a CB72, following with this CL72. I am now in the process of restoring a 1966 CL77. Paul Paddock
